21 Jan Technopreneurship Office Collaboration between Airestec Group and Universiti Teknologi Petronas
Kuala Lumpur, 21 January 2021 – On 20 January 2021, Mr William Rodney Yeo, the founder of Airestec Group has given a lot of insightful sights, his experiences, and how he step-up the game from the failures to the student of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Startup Apprentice Programme. It is a great pleasure to meet them, even virtually.
As soon it started we asked them, “What is the first thing that came to your mind when you heard the word “Technopreneurship”?” Kelvin Jun Ket Chung, a student from Principle Chemical Engineering subject respond was, technopreneurship is an entrepreneur who invents products using technology. While, Haziqah Auni Binti Muhammad Sabir, a student from Organic Chemistry subject answer was, technopreneurship is an entrepreneur who finds out the opportunities and converts them into reality in the form of products and services to maximize profit and develop their business. Meanwhile, I think, technopreneurship is simple entrepreneurship in a technology-intensive context which also a process of merging technology prowess and entrepreneurial talent and skills. Besides that, they are also the person who changed the existing economic order by producing new products and services, creating new forms of organisations and exploiting new raw materials.
With that being said, Technopreneurship is someone who perceives an opportunity and build-up an organisation to pursue it by undertakes risks that have the chance of profit. They also distinguish themselves through their abilities to accumulate and manage knowledge, as well as their capability to mobilised resources to achieve specified business or social goals. Also, entrepreneurship is a way of thinking and acting by searching for changes, responds to them, and make use of it as an opportunity. Therefore, innovation is the specific tool for entrepreneurs on how they utilise chances as a golden opportunity for different businesses or different products and services.
I love to quote what our founder said, “Entrepreneur is not only for someone who has a business, but it is also about mindset”. He also mentioned, “As an employer, we are happy if our employees have a mindset of a businessman because it will contribute a great help to the company to grow further.” This means you don’t need to have a business to be called an entrepreneur because a normal employee with a business mindset also can be called an entrepreneur.
Last but not least, we would like to thank you to the organiser, Mr Zulhusni A. Ghani, the Executives of the Technopreneurship Office for a very warm welcomed and also UTP students for their endless questions during the Q&A session. We hope during the sharing moment with our founder and also during the Q&A session, they gained something new and useful for their future. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours and may all of you graduate on time with flying colours! Fighting!
